UNDEAD MAKING OF
UNDEAD created and directed by the Spierig brothers was a low budget film that was in the cinemas in 2003. The film had many difficulties filming the film due to their low budget. The Spierig brothers committed 2 and half years on making the film. They had many challenges filming this movie, one of the challenges was the low budget they had and how they had to find and beg for most of the equipment used for this film.
During the pre production stages they had to build a lot of the interior designs which took a long time to build with finding the materials to build the interiors.
The budget they had for the movie ran out during half way through the first day though of film. They had to find materials and beg people for materials for their film. They had limitations on certain film shot takes as their resources were limited.
Costuming was a problem as the main makeup artist had to out make up on 30 people in a short time for film production. Each person takes roughly1 hour but he was doing the make up for 30mins each person and picked a virus and was ill. He had only one or two assist helping him with the makeup and costuming.
With the SFX they couldn’t afford a green screen and so they took an art canvas and painted it green. It has some problems due to the creases on the canvas. With the editing and rendering of the effects and the film, it took a long time and the computer kept crashing causing problems for the cast.
During the Post Production stages they could not afford a proper studio to record the sounds and music so they had to record it in their mother’s office room. They spend 8months working on the VFX for the film, they had 3 computers working on the VFX and on average the each computer would crash 10-15 times a day.
The making of UNDEAD is very inspirational for any low budget film as it showed all the difficulties that UNDEAD encountered during the product for the film and proves that you are able to work with any kind of budget to make a film.
